In coal mines, the scraper bucket is a bottomless, three-sided box, with a hinged back. The hinge operates in a forward direction so that on the return journey on the coalface, the back opens allowing the box to remain empty. Le scraper, ou racloir [...] est une pelle tirée par câble et qui attaque de haut en bas le tas à charger. Le scraper ravance en général les produits sur le mur jusqu'à une estacade de chargement sous laquelle circulent des berlines. La forme de la pelle fait qu'elle ne racle que dans le sens front-estacade. Dans son trajet de retour, elle glisse sur le tas sans y pénétrer.(Dans certains cas, la tôle arrière du scraper, mobile autour d’un axe supérieur horizontal, se rabat autour de celui-ci dans le trajet retour qui est ainsi facilité). Le scraper est fixé à deux câbles aboutissant aux deux tambours d’un treuil spécial.
