In exchange for food and a home for the rhizobia in the tumor-like nodules formed on plant roots, the rhizobia aid plant growth by making nitrogen available. The process by which the nitrogen of the air is converted into a usable form available to the plant is called symbiotic nitrogen fixation. Nitrogenase enzymes catalyze the conversion of free nitrogen to ammonia, which is then incorporated into amino acids and proteins. 1, record 1, English, - symbiotic%20nitrogen%20fixation

1, record 1, French, - fixation%20symbiotique%20de%20l%26rsquo%3Bazote

Rhizobium. A genus of bacteria involved in the process of nitrogen fixation in leguminous plants. Rhizobia are introduced deliberately into the soil of leguminous plants to encourage root-nodule formation. 3, record 2, English, - rhizobium%20inoculant

Rhizobium. 2, record 2, French, - inoculum%20de%20rhizobiums
