Bacteriophage particle whose genetic material is a single-stranded RNA molecule surrounded by 180 identical molecules of coat protein with a second protein called the maturation factor (A-protein), associated with attachment of the bacteriophage to the host cell. They are the simplest known viruses.

Type de bactériophage qui a un génome constitué d’ARN. Ce sont les plus simples des virus connus; ils ne contiennent que 3 gènes distribués le long de leur chromosome. Deux de ces trois gènes codent pour deux types de protéines de structure. L'une d’entre elles, la protéine capsidiaire au sens strict(CP) est présente à raison de 180 exemplaires dans chaque particule virale. L'autre protéine de structure est la protéine "A"(attachement), requise pour l'adsorption des phages sur les bactéries hôtes.
