Arc électrique avec électrodes de carbone. Bien que l'arc à électrodes de carbone ait été le premier étudié, nous n’ avons parlé que d’électrodes métalliques, presque universellement utilisée. Cependant, les électrodes au charbon sont parfois encore employées en soudage. L'arc est très stable et le soudeur doit le maintenir plus long que l'arc métallique afin que les particules de carbones incandescentes ne souillent pas le cordon.
