The name proposed by Harvey Adams, a ship captain, and his wife, Barbara Schmeisser, an historian, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, for the ocean of inland waters formed by the James Bay, the Hudson Bay, the Foxe Bassin and Channel, the Hudson Strait, and the Ungava Bay, as a means to promote Canadian unity. They were hoping for a decision before the year 2000; the toponymy commissions or authorities from the bordering Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and Northwest Territories (or after April 1, 1999, the territory of Nunavut) have to be consulted before the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names (CPCGN), now the Geographical Names Board of Canada, makes official the designation. 2, record 13, English, - Canada%20Sea
