After considering such possibilities, one is left with the impression that exoelectron emission seems to depend on an unusual combination of favorable circumstances. In fact, calculations based on the rates of exoelectron emission confirm that the production of an exoelectron is a rare event. ... If exoelectron emission were normal surface behavior, one might expect each surface atom to be the site for the emission of at least one electron, so that in the course of several days a total of 10 [to the 15th power] exoelectrons might be emitted from each square centimeter of freshly exposed surface. 1, record 14, English, - exoelectron%20emission

In scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a fine probe of electrons with energies typically up to 40 keV [kiloelectron volts] is focused on a specimen, and scanned along a pattern of parallel lines. Various signals are generated as a result of the impact of the incident electrons, which are collected to form an image or to analyse the sample surface. These are mainly secondary electrons, with energies of a few tens of eV [electron volts], high-energy electrons backscattered from the primary beam and characteristic X-rays. 5, record 17, English, - scanning%20electron%20microscopy

Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) combines the principles of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and can be performed on either type of instrument. Like TEM [transmission electron microscopy], STEM requires very thin samples and looks primarily at beam electrons transmitted by the sample. One of its principal advantages over TEM is in enabling the use of other signals that cannot be spatially correlated in TEM, including secondary electrons, scattered beam electrons, characteristic X-rays, and electron energy loss. Like SEM [scanning electron microscopy], the STEM technique scans a very finely focused beam of electrons across the sample in a raster pattern. Interactions between the beam electrons and sample atoms generate a serial signal stream, which is correlated with beam position to build a virtual image in which the signal level at any location in the sample is represented by the gray level at the corresponding location in the image. Its primary advantage over conventional SEM imaging is the improvement in spatial resolution. 3, record 20, English, - scanning%20transmission%20electron%20microscopy

1, record 41, French, - microscope%20%C3%A0%20ultraviolets

The field rate of 60 Hz is the vertical scanning frequency. This is the rate at which the electron beam completes its cycles of vertical motion, from top to bottom and back to top again. Therefore, vertical deflection circuits for either the camera tube or the picture tube operate at 60 Hz. The time of each vertical scanning cycle for one field is 1/60 s. 1, record 65, English, - vertical%20scanning%20frequency

1, record 90, French, - cam%C3%A9ra%20%C3%A0%20tube%20vidicon

Ballistic tracking radar: ITT Gilfillan (...) revealed details of its new ARBAT range instrumentation radar for testing artillery and other projectiles. (...) ARBAT employs a 3 cm pulse-Doppler radar with an electronically-scanning planar array that acquires the projectile 60 msec after firing and can track it over 50 km (30 mi) down to 0.5 ° above the horizon, by using advanced MTI clutter-rejection processing. 1, record 93, English, - ballistic%20tracking%20radar
