One radar that has gained popularity due to its ability to scan a large field of view is the phased array radar (PAR). [One] traditional PAR [is] known as a passive electronically scanned array (PESA). In the PESA, a single transmitter generates a high-powered signal that is transmitted through individual antenna elements. Each transmit element has an associated computer-controlled phase shifter ... that creates a directional beam by adding a phase shift to the signal from each element. STED [stimulated emission depletion] microscopy was the first high-resolution microscopy concept applied more widely for the study of biological questions. As performed in classical confocal laser scanning microscopy, a conventional laser beam is used to stimulate the fluorescent molecules in what is a normal excited spot (of several hundred nanometers in diameter). A second toroidal (doughnut shaped) beam is used to quench the fluorophores by stimulated emission. By overlapping the two beams, fluorescence is allowed only from the center of the spot, which thus generates a much smaller exciting focal spot ... Thus, in practical terms, a smaller effective PSF [point spread function] is generated that causes less blurring and, therefore, results in higher resolution. Theoretically, the gain in resolution is not physically limited: it only depends on the power of the quenching laser beam (the higher the power, the smaller the imaging spot becomes). 1, record 5, English, - quenching%20laser%20beam

2, record 5, French, - laser%20de%20d%C3%A9pl%C3%A9tion

In scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a fine probe of electrons with energies typically up to 40 keV [kiloelectron volts] is focused on a specimen, and scanned along a pattern of parallel lines. Various signals are generated as a result of the impact of the incident electrons, which are collected to form an image or to analyse the sample surface. These are mainly secondary electrons, with energies of a few tens of eV [electron volts], high-energy electrons backscattered from the primary beam and characteristic X-rays. 5, record 8, English, - scanning%20electron%20microscopy

3, record 26, French, - microscope%20confocal%20%C3%A0%20balayage%20laser

Electron machines, such as the Radio Dynamics Inc. Dynamitron, produce a beam of high energy electrons, which are magnetically scanned and diffused in a so-called scan horn. Since these electrons do not have the penetrating power of gamma radiation, the material to be treated must be passed in front of the horn in a thin layer, not more than 0.4 to 1.26 centimetres thick. These machines have a throughput of 200 to 400 tonnes per hour, which compares to handling rates of a commercial elevator. 1, record 34, English, - scan%20horn

3, record 54, French, - temps%20de%20retour%20de%20balayage
