Un gaz contenant du méthane et une notable proportion d’hydrocarbures de poids moléculaire intermédiaire(éthane, propane, butane) n’ est pas en général miscible avec l'huile dans les conditions du gisement. Le déplacement par un tel gaz laisse donc une certaine proportion d’huile piégée. Mais les hydrocarbures autres que le méthane contenus dans le gaz, ont alors tendance à se dissoudre dans cette huile résiduelle, modifiant sa composition et augmentant son volume. Le gaz continuant à apporter des produits condensables, il se forme ainsi, dans certains cas, un banc d’huile enrichie en hydrocarbures de poids moléculaire intermédiaire, dont la composition varie [...] de l'huile vierge à celle du gaz injecté.
