The Mobile Servicing System (MSS) or Canadarm2 is a robotic system and associated equipment on the International Space Station that plays a key role in station assembly and maintenance: moving equipment and supplies around the station, supporting astronauts working in space, and servicing instruments and other payloads attached to the space station. It is composed of the Mobile Base (MBS), the SSRMS (Space Station Remote Manipulator or Canadarm 2) and the SPDM (Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator). Astronauts receive specialized training to enable them to perform these functions with the various systems. 3, record 9, English, - SEM%20base

4, record 20, French, - micromoteur

The Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator (SPDM) is an essential tool for maintaining and servicing the Space station. With its dual-arm design providing added flexibility, the SPDM will remove and replace smaller components; on the Station exterior, where precise handling: is required. It will be equipped with lights, video equipment, a tool platform and four tool holder. The SPDM can perform dexterous tasks by sensing various forces and moments on the payload. In response, it can automatically compensate its movements to ensure the payload is manipulated smoothly. With its two arms, the SPDM will load and unload objects, use robotic tools, attach and detach covers and install various units of the Space Station. It will either be attached to the end of Canadarm2 or ride independently on the Mobile Base System [MBS] and have Canadarm2 deliver equipment to it for servicing. It also has four cameras that will provide the crew inside the Station with additional views of the work areas. Like Canadarm2 and the MBS, the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator will be controlled by the crew inside the International Space Station. The MSS [Mobile Servicing System] consists of three main elements: the Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS), known as Canadarm2, the Mobile Base System (MBS), and the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator (SPDM). Canadarm2 and the MBS, its platform, are essential tools for the assembly of the ISS. ... The Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS), known as Canadarm2, is the first component of the Mobile Servicing System. Although similar to the Shuttle Canadarm, this 17-metre manipulator is somewhat larger and incorporates many advanced features, including the ability to self relocate. The arm has the capacity to handle large ISS modules and structural elements. It will initially be used to assemble the Station. In the future, it will capture and dock unmanned resupply spacecraft to the ISS and perform routine maintenance tasks. Canadarm2 will normally move along the Space Station on the Mobile Base System, but it also has the ability to "walk" from place to place by moving from one grapple fixture on the exterior of the structure to the next, like an inchworm. ... It is equipped with four television cameras, two mounted on the booms and one near each tip. These cameras feed images to the astronauts operating the arm from the Robotic Workstation inside the Station. An advanced version of the Canadian Space Vision System improves the ability of Canadarm2 operators to keep track of the position, orientation and movement of payloads being grappled. 1, record 38, English, - Canadarm2

3, record 46, French, - base%20mobile

In its simplest form, the ring laser gyro (RLG) consists of a triangular block of glass drilled out for 3 helium-neon laser bores with mirrors at the 120 degree points - the corners. Counter-rotating laser beams - one clockwise (CW) and the other counter-clockwise (CCW) coexist in this resonator. At some point, a photosensor monitors the beams where they intersect. 5, record 50, English, - counter%2Drotating%20laser%20beam

When the RLG [ring laser gyro] is rotating, the path length around the loop is actually different depending if you measure it clockwise or counter-clockwise.
