Avec des dalles siliceuses, nous revenons aux grès à ciment de calcédonite [...] Le Sparnacien continental du bassin de Paris méridional présente ainsi des brèches siliceuses formées de morceaux de silex plus ou moins anguleux, parfois très gros, englobés dans une pâte siliceuse de très grande dureté, en tout point comparable à celle du silex englobé, de sorte que la cassure tranche aussi bien les silex que le ciment qui les englobe. Au microscope, la pâte siliceuse se montre formée d’une calcédonite très finement cristallisée, limpide en lumière naturelle. Les seules différences avec les silex englobés sont cette limpidité plus grande et l'absence d’organismes. Cette roche est une formation éluviale.
