Officially adopted by Canada in 1921 by the Great War Veterans Association - the founding group of the Royal Canadian Legion - poppies are recognized as the national symbol of remembrance for those wo have served our country, in wartime and in peacetime. Every year, for about two weeks prior to Remembrance Day - November 11th - The Royal Canadian Legion conducts the Poppy & Remembrance Campaign. The Poppy & Remembrance Campaign is intended to remind Canadians of the debt they owe those who died in the military and merchant navy service of Canada during two world wars, the Korean War and elsewhere. Chaque année durant les deux semaines qui précèdent le jour du Souvenir-le 11 novembre-la Légion royale canadienne mène la campagne du Coquelicot-Souvenir. La campagne du Coquelicot-Souvenir a pour but de rappeler aux canadiens et canadiennes la dette qu'ils ont envers les hommes et femmes qui sont morts au Service militaire du Canada et de sa Marine marchande lors de deux guerres mondiales, la guerre de Corée et ailleurs.
