Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Bosik Consultants Limited operates the National Research Council's Flight Impact Simulator Facility in Ottawa, ON. The facility houses a large pneumatic cannon (10-inch barrel diameter, measuring approximately 75 feet in length) employed to propel birds to their targets in order to simulate bird strikes with aircraft components. Aircraft components typically impacted include windshields, wings and empennage leading edges. 4, record 2, English, - flight%20impact%20simulator
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
NRC's [National Research Council of Canada] flight impact simulators or bird guns have three parts: a storage reservoir (tank at the back) pressurized to the test pressure; a step chamber (half of the reservoir's pressure); and a barrel with sabot arrestor. The sabot, which holds the projectile, must withstand the launch, protect the projectile and crush the muzzle arrestor so that nothing but the projectile continues on to the target. Adjusting the thickness of the sabot lining helps various sizes of projectiles to fit in the barrel. The firing mechanism uses a double diaphragm method. Each diaphragm is made of very thin plastic material (Mylar). 2, record 2, English, - flight%20impact%20simulator

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS

Vertical deflection of the muzzle above or below the barrel axis when laid, at the moment the projectile leaves the barrel. When the line of departure of the projectile is above the barrel axis when laid, jump is positive; if below, it is negative. Jump is caused by the vibrations transmitted to the barrel by the passage of the projectile and by the effect of the propellant charge. Not to be confused with climb caused by recoil and which occurs after the projectile has left the barrel. 1, record 3, English, - jump

1, record 3, French, - rel%C3%A8vement

With respect to land capabilities, the Canadian Forces will ... continue to transform into a modern, combat-capable medium-weight force, based primarily on wheeled light armoured vehicles, including the mobile gun system and the multi-mission effects vehicle (to replace the direct-fire role of the Leopard tank), a new platform to deliver indirect fire, and a new fleet of medium transport trucks. 3, record 4, English, - medium%20force

2, record 4, French, - force%20moyenne
