The CF6-80 [engine] also embodies the 'active clearance control' first used by GE on the F101 powerplant for the Rockwell B-1 bomber, and certificated commercially on the CFM56. This system varies the flow of cooling air, and hence the expansion of the blades, to give optimum clearance around the HP turbine. This has the double benefit of economising on fuel-demanding cooling air and of maintaining close tolerances. 1, record 4, English, - active%20clearance%20control

1, record 4, French, - contr%C3%B4le%20actif%20des%20jeux
