A game developed in Scotland in which two teams of four players each throw granite rocks spinning over a stretch of ice 138 feet long and 14 feet 2 inches wide (Can.) to 15 feet 6 inches wide towards a three-ringed target in an attempt to place a rock as close as possible to the center of the rings marked by a spot called the button. 2, record 2, English, - curling

A team scores one point for each stone it places nearer the center of the rings than its opponent. After all players on both teams have delivered their stones to one end of the rink (an "end"), the stones are scored and then delivered to the opposite end. ... 2, record 2, French, - curling
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
3, record 2, French, - curling
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
4, record 2, French, - curling

The largest and outermost of the concentric rings or circles making up the house at each end of the curling sheet. 3, record 5, English, - 12%2Dfoot%20ring

The house is formed of four concentric circles having a diameter of 12 (3,66 m), 8 (2,44 m), 4 (1,22 m) and 2 feet (0,61 m) respectively. The ring enclosed by the 12-foot and the 8-foot circles (called "outer ring") is blue and the one enclosed by the 4-foot and the 2-foot circles (called "inner ring" or "inside ring"), red, which leaves uncolored the ring enclosed by the 8-foot and the 4-foot circles (called "middle ring") and the inside of the 2-foot circle (called "tee" or "button"), giving them a white appearance. Seen from above, the house appears as a series of three rings, blue, white and red around a white button. 8, record 5, English, - 12%2Dfoot%20ring
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The term "circle" refers, more properly, to each of the four circular lines forming the house while the term "ring" refers to the coloured or uncoloured surface between two circles. But since there are four circles and four inner surfaces, the terms tend to be used as synonyms, as are "concentric ring(s)" and "concentric circle(s)." The centre of the house being a full circle and not a ring, there is a mix as to what is really the "inner circle": the red ring or the button? 8, record 5, English, - 12%2Dfoot%20ring

The large dot located in the centre of the rings at each end of the playing area on a curling sheet, the target toward which the stones are aimed; it helps determine which rock is closest to the centre of the house, where intersect the tee line and the centre line. 4, record 26, English, - tee
Record number: 26, Textual support number: 1 CONT
4, record 26, English, - tee
Record number: 26, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The tee is the uncoloured centre circle of the target; it is outlined by the red 4-foot circle surrounding it. In certain countries, a dolly placed on one end of the tee line is used to mark the centre of the house. The term «dolly» is not a synonym of the term «tee». 4, record 26, English, - tee
Record number: 26, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The centre of the house being a full circle and not a ring, there is a mix as to what is really the "inner circle": the red ring or the button? Since the rings, outer, middle and inner, or 12-foot, 8-foot and 4-foot, are considered as having a tee or button in their centre, it follows that the "inner circle" is the red ring enclosed between the 4-foot and the 2-foot circles and not the tee itself, even if the 2-foot circle enclosing the tee is the smallest of the four circles forming the house. [The illustration in The Visual Dictionary clearly establishes that the "inner circle" is the area enclosed by the 4-foot circle]. 4, record 26, English, - tee

Record number: 26, Textual support number: 3 OBS

2, record 52, French, - pilosim%C3%A8tre

Diffusion filters produce "soft" images and tend to flare bright areas of a scene into dark areas (...) There are several different types of diffusion filters on the market. (...) some contain wavy criss cross patterns, and some have concentric circles lightly etched into them. They all work in basically the same way, though. The plain areas of the diffusion filter allow the light to go straight through, forming a normal sharp image on the film. The areas of the diffusion filter that have been embossed or etched or waved or whatever bend the light that strikes them, forming one or more unsharp images that overlap the sharp one. 1, record 56, English, - diffusion%20filter
