The group joins] hands in a circle and [dances] clockwise with the drum and singers sitting in the middle. The beat of the drum is like the heartbeat of the community and all members move as one.

On effectue la danse en rond lors de cérémonies commémoratives ou de célébrations. Le début de l'évènement est marqué par une cérémonie du calumet et un festin, suivis de chants et de danses accompagnés de tambours à main. Les participants se donnent la main, forment un cercle et dansent autour des joueurs de tambour en suivant le sens des aiguilles d’une montre. Les organisateurs de la danse en rond terminent la soirée en procédant à des offrandes afin d’honorer l'intention de la danse et de remercier les personnes présentes. Les danses en rond peuvent également avoir lieu lors d’activités sociales ou de pow-wow.

Le costume utilisé pour la danse du châle d’apparat comprend, outre le châle, une robe de cérémonie descendant à mi-jambe, des mocassins ornés de perles et des mitasses assorties, ainsi que divers bijoux. La danse comporte beaucoup de déplacements, les danseuses devant exécuter de nombreux tours et des pas de fantaisie, en suivant le rythme des tambours et en s’arrêtant net à la fin, les deux pieds bien au sol.

In past centuries, religious worship on the battlefield often took place as a 'Drumhead Ceremony'. Soldiers would parade on three sides of a hollow square. On the fourth side, drummers would pile their drums in the shape of a pyramid to make an altar, draped with regimental colours.
