The Usher of the Black Rod is the most senior protocol officer in the Parliament of Canada and as such, is responsible for an important ceremonial side of the Senate's work, including the daily Speaker's Parade, royal assent, the Speech from the Throne, the installation of a Governor General and state funerals.
