A fragrant liquid unsaturated optically active unsaturated tertiary alcohol which occurs both free and in the form of esters in many essential oils, especially linaloe oils, and which is used in perfumes, soaps and flavoring materials.

OBS

Linalool exists under three forms: racemic: «dl» or «(±)» or «rac»; dextrogyre: «d» or «(+)»; and levogyre: «l» or «(-)». The prefixes «dl», «d» and «l» must be italicized. It is to be noted that the stereodescriptors (±), (+) and (-) are nowadays preferred. See also the records for the related concepts "coriandrol" and "licareol."

OBS

In the dextrorotatory form it is obtained especially from bois de rose oil or coriander oil, in levorotatory form from Mexican linaloe oil and the oil froma Japanese cinnamon, and in racemic form by isomerication of geraniol or synthetically. All optically isomeric and all used in perfumes, soaps, and flavoring materials.

Allyl resins are available as monomers and as B-staged prepolymers. The monomers are often used as cross-linking agents and flow promoters for other polyesters; the prepolymers are the base resins for molding compounds and prepregs. The two most widely used allyl resins are diallyl orthophthalate (DAP) and diallyl isophthalate (DAIP) ...

OBS

Properties: Monomer is liquid ... prepolymer is solid ... Use: Molding and laminating, cross-linker for polyesters.

DEF

carbene: Generic name for the species H2C: and substitution derivatives thereof, containing an electrically neutral bivalent carbon atom with two nonbonding electrons.

OBS

The nonbonding electrons may have antiparallel spins (singlet state) or parallel spins (triplet state).

DEF

carbenes: The electrically neutral species H2C: and its derivatives, in which the carbon is covalently bonded to two univalent groups of any kind or a divalent group and bears two nonbonding electrons, which may be spin-paired (singlet state) or spin-non-paired (triplet state).

OBS

In systematic name formation, carbene is the name of the parent hydride :CH2; hence, the name dichlorocarbene for :CCl2. However, names for acyclic and cyclic hydrocarbons containing one or more divalent carbon atoms are derived from the name of the corresponding all-[lambda subscript 4]-hydrocarbon using the suffix -ylidene.

OBS

Use of the alternative name "methylene" [q.v.] as a generic term is not recommended.

DEF
