gayet :Charbon homogène, non zoné, à cassure généralement conchoïdale, pouvant constituer tout ou partie de l'épaisseur d’une couche et représentant du charbon sapropélique. M. Legrave(1932) distingue des gayets d’algues(boghead), des gayets de spores(cannel coal) et des gayets de débris(pseudo-cannel coal).

A variety of bituminous or subbituminous coal resembling cannel coal in appearance and behavior during combustion.

OBS

It is characterized by a high percentage of algal remains and volatile matter. Upon distillation, it gives exceptionally high yields of tar and oil.

Le boghead est un charbon dur et terne à très haute teneur en matières volatiles (55 à 60 %), qui brûle en laissant beaucoup de cendres, ce qui le rend impropre au chauffage domestique. Il est imprégné de matières bitumineuses qui peuvent être libérées par chauffage pour donner des hydrocarbures liquides (huiles).

CONT

Le bog-head, mat, mais avec de minuscules facettes brillantes, ne tache pas les doigts. Il est fait d’une sorte de durain où le microscope décèle des algues formées d’une seule cellule. Sa teneur en matières volatiles va de 55 à 60 %.

Coal that is derived from organic residues (finely divided plant material, spores, algae) in stagnant or standing bodies of water.

CONT

The main types of sapropelic coal are cannel coal, boghead coal and torbanite. Sapropelic coals are high in volatiles, generally, dull, massive, and relatively uncommon.

OBS

Putrefaction under anaerobic conditions rather than peatification is the formative process [of sapropelic coals].
