CHRONOZONE [4 records]

Record 1 2012-01-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
  • Chronology
DEF

A slice of time that begins at a given identifiable event and ends at another.

CONT

Geologic time units have traditionally been presented in a hierarchical scheme with ranks: eon, era, period, epoch, ... age, chron.

OBS

In the fossil record such tracer events are usually keyed to disappearance (extinction) of a widely distributed and rapidly changing species or the appearance of such a species in the geological record. Chronozones [and] chrons are used especially in the various disciplines related to Geology, notably in stratigraphy where relative dating is employed.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
  • Chronologie
DEF

Durée d’une chronozone.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Geología
  • Cronología
DEF

La menor de las unidades geocronológicas.

OBS

En la escala geocronológica, el cron corresponde a la cronozona de la escala estratigráfica.

OBS

El cron es la subdivisión de la edad geológica.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
  • Chronology
DEF

The rocks formed during the period of time [named chron].

OBS

Chronozones [and] chrons are used especially in the various disciplines related to geology, notably in stratigraphy where relative dating is employed.

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
  • Chronologie
DEF

Division chronostratigraphique plus petite que l’étage.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Geología
  • Cronología
DEF

La menor de las unidades cronoestratigráficas.

OBS

En la escala cronoestratigráfica, cronozona corresponde al cron de la escala geocronológica.

OBS

La cronozona es la subdivisión de un piso.

Record 3 1991-04-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
  • Chronology
DEF

The fundamental unit of geologic time designating the time span of a polarity chronozone. It is the polarity-chronologic unit of middle rank, between polarity superchron and polarity subchron.

OBS

The term "polarity epoch" may also designate another concept, the period of time during which the Earth's magnetic field was predominantly or entirely of one polarity.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
  • Chronologie
CONT

Le chron polaire est l'unité [polaro-géochronologique] de base qui correspond à l'intervalle de temps géologique représenté par une chronozone polaire.

Record 4 1988-11-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
  • Chronology
DEF

The fundamental unit of worldwide polarity-chronostratigraphic classification, consisting of rocks of a specified primary polarity.

CONT

Gauss Normal Polarity Chronozone.

OBS

A formal polarity-chronostratigraphic unit is given a compound name beginning with that for a named geographic feature; the second component indicates the normal, reversed, or mixed polarity of the unit, and the third component is "chronozone".

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
  • Chronologie
CONT

La chronozone polaire est l'unité fondamentale, à travers le monde, de la classification polaro-chronostratigraphique. Elle est constituée de roches qui possèdent une polarité magnétique primaire.

CONT

la Chronozone polaire inverse de Matuyama
