3, record 6, Spanish, - paraclonaci%C3%B3n

Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) cloning ... is accomplished by taking two cells – an egg cell from a female and a somatic cell from the person or animal to be cloned. The nucleus of the egg cell is removed and discarded. The nucleus from the somatic cell is then transferred to the [enucleated] egg cell. The egg cell and its new nucleus are fused together with the expectation it will grow. If cell division and growth is accomplished, the clone’s life has begun. 3, record 10, English, - somatic%20cell%20nuclear%20transfer%20cloning

After separation by agarose gel electrophoresis, a nitrocellulose film is placed on the gel surfaces and dry blotting material on the nitrocellulose. Liquid is thus transported from a reservoir beneath the gel through the gel and nitrocellulose filter. Making more subtle mutations: the "knock in". Although it is often desirable to simply inactivate a gene to determine the importance of a null phenotype, in many cases it is more informative not to inactivate a gene, but rather to modify it so that its function is altered. Again, this is a task (which is the logical equivalent of site directed mutagenesis in a plasmid) that can be solved by homologous recombination. In this case a targeting vector is designed as a replacement vector so that additional genetic sequence are added into the genome. This technique is sometimes called a "knock-in". 2, record 33, English, - replacement%20vector

Microbial enzymes are more useful than enzymes derived from plants or animals because of the great variety of catalytic activities available, because cheap, regular, abundant supplies of even quality can usually be developed, occasionally by surface culture but usually by the deep culture aerobic fermentation techniques widely used in the production of antibiotics; also because microbial enzymes are usually more stable than the corresponding plant and animal enzymes, and because microbial enzyme production is usually a more convenient and safer procedure than production from plant and animal sources. 3, record 34, English, - microbial%20enzyme

The most important aspect of our cloning vectors is that they are based on the E. coli F-factor replicon. It allows for strict copy number control of the clones so that they are stably maintained at 1-2 copies per cell. The stability of the cloned DNA during propagation in E. coli host is substantially higher in lower-copy number vectors than in multi-copy counterparts. ... The stabilizing effect of BAC and cosmid vectors is notable especially for certain genomic DNA that are normally unstable in high copy number vectors. 1, record 48, English, - bacterial%20artificial%20chromosome

Homopoietic progenitor cells generally become committed to a particular pathway of differentiation long before they cease proliferating and terminally differentiate. The committed progenitors go through many rounds of cell division to amplify the ultimate number of cells of the given specialized type. In this way, a single stem-cell division can lead to the production of thousands of differentiated progeny, which explains why the number of stem cells is so small a fraction of the total population of hemopoietic cells. 3, record 50, English, - committed%20progenitor

We first constructed a new FPV insertion vector (Fig. 3) which facilitates production of recombinant viruses by co-insertion of the gpt marker gene under the control of a vaccinia virus 19K promoter. Background: Some patients with inflammatory bowel disease have anemia that is not responsive to iron administration and not due to folate or B12 deficiency. One hypothesis is that inflammatory cytokines decrease erythropoietin production and create resistance to the effect of erythropoietin, leading to a relative deficiency of this hormone. This study was a randomized, double-blind trial of recombinant erythropoietin (epoietin) in treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease and anemia refractory to iron therapy. 3, record 77, English, - recombinant%20erythropoietin

One was the need for development of disabled hosts and vectors that would have no significant probability of surviving outside the laboratory, and that would satisfy the criteria of biological containment established in the 1976 National Institutes of Health guidelines.

1, record 88, French, - clonoth%C3%A8que
