In December of 1994, the Tropical Atmosphere Ocean (TAO) Array was completed. The TAO Array is a series of about seventy buoys carefully placed in the tropical Pacific Ocean. Each buoy has special equipment that records information about the water and the air above the water. All of the buoys work together, forming an array, to give scientists a big picture of climate conditions in the area. The buoys send their data to scientists everyday by way of weather satellites that orbit Earth. Since 1994, scientists have been able to watch the water and the air for signs of El Niño. Once they notice that the water is getting warmer, they can keep track of the other changes and help to make predictions about the effects of El Niño better than they ever have before. 1, record 3, English, - Tropical%20Atmosphere%20Ocean%20Array

1, record 18, French, - constituants%20physiques%20et%20chimiques%20de%20l%26rsquo%3Batmosph%C3%A8re

Cosmic rays: Highly energetic extraterrestrial ionizing radiation. The primary cosmic rays, i.e. the cosmic rays incident on the top of the Earth's atmosphere, are predominantly composed of fully ionized (i.e. positively charged atomic nuclei, having energies ranging from a few times 106 eV to 1018 or 1019 eV. The secondary cosmic rays and other secondary cosmic rays, are complex in character and include nucleons, mesons, electrons, neutrinos, X-rays, y[gamma]-rays, etc. 1, record 20, English, - secondary%20cosmic%20rays

3, record 20, French, - rayonnement%20cosmique%20secondaire
