An air bubble system was introduced on Baltic icebreaking vessels in the 1970s. The system uses one or more air compressors to force air through nozzles at the ship's side below the water-line. The air bubbles rise to the surface together with entrained water, lubricating the interface between the ice and the ship's hull, both above and below the water-line. 1, record 5, English, - air%20bubble%20system

1, record 5, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20production%20de%20bulles%20d%26rsquo%3Bair

SPC: Self-Polishing Copolymer (SPC) antifoulings release biocides via a hydrolysis reaction of an acrylic polymer with seawater. This is a chemical reaction and only occurs at the surface of the coating. SPC technology combines controlled polishing rate and optimum biocide release with inherent self smoothing for hull roughness control and maximum fuel efficiency. Pioneered by International Paint in the early 1970s, the overall contribution of SPC technology to the fuel efficiency of the global fleet has been significant. 1, record 8, English, - self%2Dpolishing%20copolymer

1, record 8, French, - copolym%C3%A8re%20autopolissant

A cooling tower basically consists of an air circuit and a water circuit leading to a heat exchange vessel in which the air and water are brought into contact. By a stack effect, i.e. by natural draft, the cooling tower shell provides air circulation. When, as is the case with the wet cooling towers at EDF thermal and nuclear plants, the air and water are placed in direct contact in the heat exchange vessel, the hot air escaping from the shell is saturated with steam : mixing with the colder outside air produces by steam condensation a plume whose structure is similar to a natural cloud. 1, record 12, English, - wet%20cooling%20tower
