The Computer Open Systems Implementation Program (COSIP) provides the U.S. Navy with an engineering and acquisition mechanism for introducing commercial and open system technologies. COSIP represents a new approach that couples Navy standardization with open architecture and commercial-off-the-shelf technologies, with emphasis on maximizing the benefits of portability and interoperability.
