Les croyances fondamentales sont généralement inconscientes et elles représentent le niveau cognitif le plus profond. Il s’agit de conclusions absolues à propos de soi, des autres et du monde, à travers lesquelles l’individu perçoit et analyse son environnement. Elles se développent sur la base de l’interaction entre l’hérédité d’une personne et les évènements qu’il a vécus très tôt dans sa vie, et elles tendent à se maintenir de façon stable et rigide dans le temps.
