An excessive increase in body weight due to an accumulation of body fat or increase in muscular mass and characterized for adults by a body mass index greater than 25 kg/m².

CONT

Overweight refers to an excess of body weight compared to set standards. The excess weight may come from muscle, bone, fat, and/or body water. Obesity refers specifically to having an abnormally high proportion of body fat. ... However, overweight and obesity are not mutually exclusive ... Defining overweight as a BMI [body mass index] of 25 or greater is consistent with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and most other countries.

OBS

overweight: term also used as a synonym of "preobesity" to refer to the condition of a person whose body mass index is more than 25 but less than 30 kg/m², the lower limit for obesity.

surpoids, surcharge pondérale, excès de poids, excès pondéral : termes aussi utilisés comme synonymes de «préobésité» pour désigner la situation pondérale des personnes dont l’indice de masse corporelle est supérieur à 25, mais inférieur ou égal à 29,9 kg/m², ce qui exclut l’obésité.
