DEF

The self-similarity inherent in the crease sequence can be brought to visual life by making all creases right angles. The fractal so generated is known as the dragon curve, because later generations resemble a dragon. Two such dragons produce the twin dragon. The dragon curve is self-similar. The successive center folds, marked by little dots, fall on a logarithmic spiral, one of the basic (and smooth) self-similar objects, with many interesting applications.

Over 450 entries were made in the second annual ISSCO users Group Plot Contest. The entries ranged from standard charts to images generated by digitizing and fractal geometry. Four outputs illustrate some of the entries. These include those generated by fractal geometry, a self-squared fractal, solid modeling, and a digitizer.

Self-squared dragons; approach to the "Peano" limit. ... To watch a dragon in the process of self-squaring would be a fascinating sight! A monstrous "molting" detaches the skins of a dragon's belly and back from their innumerable folds. Then, it stretches each skin to twice its length, which of course remains infinite all along! Next, it folds each skin around the back as well as the belly. And finally, it re-attaches all the folds neatly in their new positions.

DEF
