St. George is the patron saint of England. He is the patron of soldiers and archers, cavalry and chivalry, of farmers and field workers, Boy Scouts and butchers, of horses, riders and saddlers. He is also the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, Genoa Georgia, Germany, Greece, Istanbul, Lithuania, Moscow, Palestine, Portugal, and of Venice (second to St. Mark). According to legend, St. George, a soldier of the Imperial Army, rescues a town in what is now Libya from the tyranny of a people-eating dragon. St. George overpowered the beast and then offered to kill it if the townspeople would convert to Christianity and be baptized. The story is that there were 15,000 conversions on the spot. Openly espousing Christianity was dangerous and eventually the authorities of Emperor Diocletian arrested George. He was martyred about 303 AD. 3, record 2, English, - St%2E%20George%27s%20Day

Lilium candidum (popularly known as the Madonna Lily) is a plant in the genus Lilium, one of the true lilies. It is native to the Balkans and West Asia. It forms bulbs at ground level, and unlike other lilies, has a basal rosette of leaves through the winter, which die back in summer. A leafy flower stem, typically up to 1.2 m high, sometimes up to 2 m high, emerges in late spring and bears fragrant flowers in summer. Flowers are white, flushed yellow at the base. 2, record 3, English, - Madonna%20lily

February 15 is National Flag of Canada Day. It marks the day in 1965 when our red and white maple leaf flag was first raised over Parliament Hill in Ottawa, and in hundreds of communities from coast to coast. This is a perfect opportunity to celebrate our flag and what it stands for - a country and a citizenship that are the envy of the world. In our often understated ways, be it instructing students in a school classroom, taking time to listen to the stories of veterans, or volunteering at the local community centre, Canadians share their pride in our flag and in their common values. In its striking simplicity, the National Flag of Canada speaks to the exciting challenges and opportunities of our future. At the same time, it speaks to all that we have accomplished together as a people and to those moments that have served to define us. The creation of our flag in 1965 was such a moment. 1, record 7, English, - National%20Flag%20of%20Canada%20Day

2, record 7, French, - Jour%20du%20drapeau%20national%20du%20Canada
