The stomach is a J-shaped organ that digests food. It produces enzymes (substances that create chemical reactions) and acids (digestive juices). This mix of enzymes and digestive juices breaks down food so it can pass to [the] small intestine. ... [The] stomach sits in [the] upper abdomen on the left side of [the] body. The top of [the] stomach connects to a valve called the esophageal sphincter (a muscle at the end of [the] esophagus). The bottom of [the] stomach connects to [the] small intestine. 2, record 1, English, - stomach

Gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), also called glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide, is a 42-amino-acid peptide secreted by mucosal K cells, predominantly found in the duodenum and jejunum and to a lesser extent in the ileum and colon. GIP is released into the circulation following a mixed meal and also ingestion of glucose, fat, or amino acids. Fat ingestion appears to be a more potent stimulator of GIP secretion than carbohydrate in humans. 3, record 3, English, - glucose%2Ddependent%20insulinotropic%20polypeptide

Gastric bypass is one common type of weight-loss surgery. During bypass surgery, the top of the stomach is changed into a small gastric pouch. A loop of your small intestine is cut, and one end of the loop is brought up and is connected to the gastric pouch. This connection is one anastomosis. The other end of the small intestine loop is reconnected to the small intestine, further down. This is another anastomosis. Food is then redirected to an area farther down in your digestive system. It bypasses the stomach. Because food will now bypass your stomach, your body does not absorb as many calories. 4, record 5, English, - Roux%2Den%2DY%20gastric%20bypass

The suspensory muscle of duodenum or ligament of Treitz (named after Václav Treitz) connects the duodenum of the small intestines to the diaphragm. It contains a slender band of skeletal muscle from the diaphragm and a fibromuscular band of smooth muscle from the horizontal and ascending parts of the duodenum. When it contracts, the suspensory muscle of the duodenum wides the angle of the duodenojejunal flexure, allowing movement of the intestinal contents. 1, record 31, English, - suspensory%20muscle%20of%20duodenum

Enteroclysis. Placing a nasointestinal tube with the tip near the duodenojejunal junction and introducing the barium at this site has a number of advantages. With this method there is no overlap of the stomach on the small bowel and there is complete control of the flow of barium through the small intestine. During the filling of the bowel, each segment can be observed under the fluoroscope. This small-bowel enema (enteroclysis) has the disadvantages of increased patient discomfort associated with the tube and usually more radiation exposure. 3, record 43, English, - enteroclysis
