A grade category, at the low end of the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) clarity scale, assigned to diamonds with prominent eye-visible inclusions, or those which may affect the stone's durability.

CONT

The lowest clarity grades on the scale (indicated by P for Piqué) refer to inclusions that can be seen by an experienced grader with the naked eye. Depending on the importance of the characteristics, P1, P2 and P3 are distinguished.

OBS

Use of "P" or "Piqué" is recommended by Scandinavian Diamond Nomenclature (Scan. D.N.), 1970, instead of "I" or "Imperfect," with sub-grades P1, P2 and P3 for stones weighing 0.50 ct. or more.

OBS

I (included) in the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) system corresponds to P (piqué) in the IDC (International Diamond Council) and HRD (Hoge Raad voor Diamant) system.

Environment Canada. Environmental Effects Monitoring (EEM) is a science-based tool that can detect and measure changes in aquatic ecosystems (i.e., receiving environments) potentially affected by human activity (i.e., effluent discharges). EEM is an iterative system of monitoring and interpretation phases that can be used to help assess the effectiveness of environmental management measures. Although EEM is currently employed within a regulatory context in Canada, the concept is applicable to other types of environmental assessment (both regulatory and non-regulatory). As such, EEM is used as an assessment tool to help determine the sustainability of human activities on ecosystem health.

Environnement Canada. L'Étude de suivi des effets sur l'environnement(ESEE) est un outil scientifique qui permet de détecter et de mesurer les changements dans les écosystèmes aquatiques(les milieux récepteurs) susceptibles d’être touchés par l'activité humaine(les rejets d’effluents). L'ESEE est un système itératif de suivi et d’interprétation qui peut faciliter l'évaluation de l'efficacité des mesures de gestion de l'environnement. Riot Control Agent, CS1. Specially formulated to prolong persistency and increase the effectiveness of CS. Unlike CS, CS1 is a free-flowing (micropulverized) agent powder consisting of 95-percent crystalline CS blended with 5-percent silica aerogel. This formulation reduces agglomeration and achieves the desired respiratory effects when dispersed as a solid aerosol.

The powder CS is designated CS1 and is much more durable than the aerosol form of the agent. As a further refinement, CS1 is coated with silicone to extend its field persistence up to several weeks; the weatherproofed variety is called CS2.

This treatment improves the physical characteristics of CS by reducing agglomeration and hydrolysis. This form of CS prolongs the effectiveness for both immediate and surface contamination effects. When disturbed, CS2 reaerosolizes to cause respiratory and eye effects.
