Calcein is an organic compound that can be used to mark fish by either immersion or injection. It is a fluorescing compound that can be seen with ultraviolet light. ... Results demonstrate that it works well for marking the otoliths of newly immerged fish in addition to marking the scales. It is not clear ... if this will work for adult fish (i.e., if the mark will persist). Results to date suggest that the mark [does not] persist well once exposed to light. 1, record 18, French, - marquage%20des%20%C3%A9cailles

Horned lizard have a puzzling defense behavior which can be observed only rarely, in certain particularly strong individuals- they actually squirt blood from their eyelids. When they are severely annoyed, they shut their eyelids and cause them to swell up.With a distinct sound, a fine stream of blood spurts out for as much as 1 m, breaking up into tiny droplets. 2, record 60, English, - Texas%20horned%20lizard

1, record 60, French, - Tapaya%20du%20Texas

Soft rime is a white ice deposition that forms when the water droplets in light freezing fog or mist freeze to the outer surfaces of objects, with calm or light wind ... Soft rime formations have the appearance of white ice needles and scales; they are fragile and can be easily shaken off objects. Factors that favour soft rime are small drop size, slow accretion of liquid water, high degree of supercooling, and fast dissipation of latent heat of fusion. 2, record 73, English, - soft%20rime

3, record 75, French, - peau

Deposit of ice crystals in the form of scales, needles, feathers and fans and which forms on objects in the same manner as dew, except that the water vapour of the air is transformed directly into ice crystals. 5, record 98, English, - hoar%20frost
Record number: 98, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Hoarfrost [is] a deposit of interlocking ice crystals formed by direct sublimation on objects, usually those of small diameter freely exposed to the air, such as tree branches, plant stems and leaf edges, wires, and poles. Also, frost may form on the skin of an aircraft when a cold aircraft flies into warm and moist air or when it passes through air that is supersaturated with water vapor. Hoarfrost is formed similarly to the way dew is formed except that the temperature of the frosted object must be below freezing. Frost forms when air with a dew point below freezing is brought to saturation by cooling. In addition to its formation on freely exposed objects (air hoar), hoarfrost also forms inside unheated buildings and vehicles, in caves, in crevasses (crevasse hoar), on snow surfaces (surface hoar), and in air spaces within snow, especially below a snow crust (depth hoar). Hoarfrost is more fluffy and feathery than rime, which in turn is lighter than glaze. Hoarfrost is designated light or heavy (frost) depending upon the amount and uniformity of deposition. 6, record 98, English, - hoar%20frost
Record number: 98, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Hoarfrost [is] due to nocturnal radiation. Hoarfrost forms during still, clear nights, is small in amount, needlelike in texture, the "needles" approximately perpendicular to the objects on which they occur, and most abundant along the edges. 7, record 98, English, - hoar%20frost

2, record 98, French, - gel%C3%A9e%20blanche
