  • Environmental Management
CONT

Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS). CCUS is a suite of technologies that capture CO2 from industrial or power applications and either use it to create products such as concrete and low-carbon synthetic fuels or transport it to be permanently stored in geological formations underground. It is also a critical enabling technology for carbon dioxide removal solutions such as direct air capture.

CONT

Alberta is a global leader in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Waste Management
DEF

The disposal of substances within the boundaries of the facility.

CONT

The difference between an on-site disposal and an on-site release is that a disposal is a more controlled method of discarding waste, whereas a release is a direct discharge to the environment.

OBS

on-site disposal: term used by Environment Canada.

Key term(s)
  • on site disposal

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gestion des déchets
DEF

CONT

A bracket is the diagrammatic representation of the series of games played during a tournament, named as such because it appears to be a large number of interconnected (punctuational) brackets. There are several kinds of brackets, adapted to different types of tournaments. The most common are: Single elimination brackets (tennis, basketball); Double elimination brackets (9-ball).

CONT

By looking at a single-elimination bracket, it quickly becomes clear that tournaments are easy to run only if they have a number of players which is a power of 2: i.e. 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, etc. Having this exact number of players ensures that in each round, all players have somebody to compete against.

CONT

Splendid City Team Sports Scheduler and Sports Scheduling Software System is useful for people who organize team sport events. Use it to manage/publish sports schedules of any size and complexity. Automatically create high quality double or single elimination tournament brackets, round-robin, swiss round, cross divisional or practice schedules for any sport that requires pairings.

OBS

Often a "bracket" is physically drawn on a sheet of paper or whiteboard for the benefit of spectators and players, especially in single- and double-elimination tournaments, showing who is playing whom, and making it easy to see who will be matched up in future rounds depending on who wins each game.

  • single-elimination tournament bracket

CONT

CONT

Single Knockout Tournament Format, also known as Single Elimination, is a format for pairing players to play games in tournaments. In the first round, players are paired to play. Those players that lose are eliminated, knocked out of the tournament. Those players that win are promoted to the second round. DEF

A process used to eliminate brightness, lighting and roughness effects on images so that direct comparisons can be made.

CONT

Data normalization is primarily aimed at making the two input images similar with respect to radiometric qualities, so that the same land cover type on the two images have the same brightness value (digital number). In other words, it is an attempt to simulate the same illumination and atmospheric conditions that occurred when the two images were acquired. The idea is that if the images are normalized, then it is much easier to detect changes in land cover.

data normalization: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).
