There are four possible methods of postaerating treatment plant effluent. Two of these methods, diffused aeration and mechanical aeration, are essentially the same as those employed in biological treatment processes. The other methods, called cascade aeration and U-tube aeration, can be attractive alternatives. In cascade aeration, effluent is discharged over a series of steps or weirs in thin layers with the objective of maximizing turbulence, thereby increasing oxygen transfer. Cascade aeration is an attractive postaeration technique where sufficient head is available after secondary clarification. While U-tube aerators have not yet been employed in postaeration, they have been suggested as an attractive alternative to other postaeration methods. 2, record 3, English, - cascade%20aeration

At the heart of the flotation process is the flotation cell, of which several designs are available. Here, air in the form of small bubbles is blended with the grey stock. The air bubbles become attached to ink and dirt particles, causing them to rise to the surface of the cell where they are removed as a dirt-laden layer of froth. Typically, 6 to 10 flotation cells in series are required for efficient ink removal depending on the level of dirt in the stock. 1, record 30, English, - Voith%20flotation%20cell

2, record 30, French, - cellule%20de%20flottation%20Voith

In relation to surfactant biodegradability, it is important to distinguish between primary and ultimate biodegradation. For example, the loss of the ester sulphate groups from surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulphate or sodium dodecyltriethoxy sulphate would be a primary biodegradation step that would lead to an immediate loss of susfactant properties. ... For the most part, industry and water and sewage authorities have been content to ensure that new surfactant products do undergo reasonably rapid primary and ultimate biodegradation and a variety of laboratory tests have been developed specifically since the advent of synthetic surfactants. 4, record 45, English, - primary%20biodegradation

Taylor (1995) provides an example of the objectives-based approach in his proposed twin-peaks model for the financial system (including financial markets) of the United Kingdom. This model consisted of only two regulatory agencies: one responsible for ensuring the soundness of the financial system and one focusing strictly on consumer protection. He argues that this model should have several benefits including eliminating regulatory duplication and overlap, providing for greater clarity in the objectives of regulators, establishing mechanisms for resolving conflicting objectives, and encouraging a regulatory process that is open, transparent, and publicly accountable. 1, record 74, English, - twin%2Dpeaks%20model

Note the following distinction: one can be a (previous) champion of an event (tournament) without necessarily being the (current) titleholder/titlist. Hence the English term "champion" is only a partial equivalent of the French term "tenant/détenteur du titre". Vapex (vapor extraction) is a relatively new process for the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen that involves the injection of a vaporized solvent to reduce the viscosity of the oil. The diluted oil is then allowed to drain into a production well under the influence of gravity. It is a potentially economic process that can be applied to reservoirs that are not suitable for thermal recovery method. In addition, the process has the potential to sequester greenhouse gases, and is capable of in situ upgrading of heavy oil. 3, record 81, English, - vapour%20extraction

The VAPEX process uses saturated hydrocarbon solvent vapour (ethane, propane or butane) in conjunction with horizontal wells to mobilize and recover viscous oils and bitumens from hydrocarbon deposits in which the bottom water zone (aquifer) is used to deliver the solvent vapour to the base of the reservoir. The process involves injecting a hydrocarbon solvent into the reservoir along with a displacement gas to mobilize the hydrocarbons in the reservoir and move them toward the production well. 8, record 81, English, - vapour%20extraction

Making more subtle mutations: the "knock in". Although it is often desirable to simply inactivate a gene to determine the importance of a null phenotype, in many cases it is more informative not to inactivate a gene, but rather to modify it so that its function is altered. Again, this is a task (which is the logical equivalent of site directed mutagenesis in a plasmid) that can be solved by homologous recombination. In this case a targeting vector is designed as a replacement vector so that additional genetic sequence are added into the genome. This technique is sometimes called a "knock-in". 2, record 87, English, - replacement%20vector

Antibacterial Glass - Operation and Performance. The process developed and patented by AGC Flat Glass Europe involves diffusing silver ions into the upper layers of the glass: the ions interact with bacteria and destroy them by disabling their metabolism and disrupting their division mechanism. The antibacterial effect of the glass is ongoing, particularly in warm and moist conditions favouring the development of bacteria and mould. 2, record 96, English, - antibacterial%20glass

1, record 96, French, - verre%20antibact%C3%A9rien

Many environmental factors change with time. Those factors include light levels; temperature; humidity; wind speed; availability of food, water, and mineral nutrients; pollutants; and the presence or absence of various species. 5, record 99, French, - facteur%20%C3%A9cologique
