At the heart of the flotation process is the flotation cell, of which several designs are available. Here, air in the form of small bubbles is blended with the grey stock. The air bubbles become attached to ink and dirt particles, causing them to rise to the surface of the cell where they are removed as a dirt-laden layer of froth. Typically, 6 to 10 flotation cells in series are required for efficient ink removal depending on the level of dirt in the stock. 1, record 4, English, - Voith%20flotation%20cell

3, record 14, French, - compact%C3%A9

Drying of gases: The removal of 95-100% of the water vapor in air or other gases is frequently necessary. Gases having a dew point of -40°F are considered commercially dry. The more important reasons for the removal of water vapor from air are: (1) comfort, as in air conditioning; (2) control of the humidity of manufacturing atmospheres; (3) protection of electrical equipment against corrosion, short circuits, and electrostatic discharges; (4) requirement of dry air for the use in chemical processes where moisture present in air adversely affects the economy of the process; (5) prevention of water absorption in pneumatic conveying; and (6) as a prerequisite to liquifaction. 3, record 19, English, - dry%20air

1, record 23, French, - traitement%20%C3%A0%20l%26rsquo%3Bacide

Flotation Clarifiers. Dissolved air flotation is a solids-removal process where fine air bubbles become attached to the suspended particles, thus reducing the density of individual particles and causing them to float to the surface. The separated solids then form a floating layer that is a mixture of solids and air bubbles. The buoyant force exerted by the entrapped air also acts to compact the solids into a smaller volume before the floating layer is skimmed off. ... A flotation clarifier of recent design is illustrated in Figure 26-7. This unit features a deep, baffled flow shaft for the wastewater. Air is injected on the downcomer side at the bottom of the shaft where a portion is dissolved by hydrostatic pressure. Undissolved air rises against the downward flow, contributing to water saturation. Rising water on the other side of the shaft is thereby saturated with air, but free of undissolved air bubbles. As hydrostatic pressure declines, microscopic bubbles are released from solution and become attached to the suspended solids. 1, record 28, English, - flotation%20clarifier

1, record 28, French, - clarificateur%20par%20flottation

Air Float Dryer .... principle of operation .... The pulp web is carried in a number of passes through a chamber in which heated air is used both for drying and for supporting the web. Capital and operating costs are similar to the steam cylinder system, but most pulp producers favor the air float dryer because it is easier to operate and maintain. In the earlier models of the air dryer, the pulp web is carried on mechanical conveyors and hot air is blown between the passes. The later designs incorporate true air impingement above and below the web; this principle provides much higher evaporation rates and eliminates the mechanical conveyor. Typically, the pulp web enters at the top, makes a number of horizontal passes turning around rollers at each end, and leaves at the bottom of the dryer at the opposite end. 1, record 29, English, - air%20float%20dryer

1, record 29, French, - s%C3%A9choir%20%C3%A0%20feuille%20a%C3%A9roport%C3%A9e

Exhausting includes the removal of air from the filled can and the establishment of conditions whereby the finished canned product will show a substantial degree of vacuum. This can be done by heating the filled can in steam or hot water for several minutes so that the air is driven out and the temperature of the contents is raised considerably. It can also be accomplished by a vacuum closing machine where the air is sucked out by a pump and the lid is sealed on while the suction is being maintained. 2, record 30, English, - exhausting
