English

Subject field(s)
  • Plant Biology
  • Plant and Crop Production
CONT

… cereal grain plant growth is divided into five basic growth stages (early leaf, tillering, stem elongation, heading and ripening ...). … Heads begin to develop on each tiller even before the stem becomes visible between leaves (stem elongation).

DEF

One of a group of plant hormones that consist of five fused rings and that stimulate the growth of leaves and shoots.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Botanique

DEF

Hormone naturelle végétale de nature diterpénique.

OBS

Record 3 2017-11-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Grain Growing
DEF

A growth stage of grasses when the main stem begins to elongate.

CONT

Stem elongation or jointing occurs as a result of internode elongation. Usually a plant has about five to six leaves on the main shoot when internode elongation first begins. Throughout development, the lower four nodes remain in the crown. The fifth node may remain in the crown or be elevated slightly and nodes six and seven are generally elevated above the soil. The elongating internode is hollow between the crown and the elevated growing point, except in solid stem varieties. Rapid stem or internode elongation brings the developing head above the soil surface. Each elongating internode becomes progressively longer and eventually leads to head emergence.

CONT

For corn, growth was determined as elongation of the sixth leaf blade.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
CONT

Extrusion stretch blow moulding (ESBM). A parison is extruded and as the preblow mould closes, a mandrel descends to form the bottle neck. The parison is subsequently pinched and inflated, then conditioned at the optimum temperature for orientation in the next stage. Transfer of the blown and conditioned preform to the stretch-blow mould takes place; fabrication of the finished part is achieved by stretching in the circumferential direction (pneumatic inflation) and in the longitudinal direction (mechanical push-rod), followed by rapid cooling to prevent relaxation of the (biaxial) molecular orientation.

CONT
