Metatropic dwarfism is first manifested by marked streaklike underossifications of the vertebral centra, wide metaphyseal flaring, and trochanteric hyperplasia. Its progressively severe kyphoscoliosis and peculiar battle-axe pelvic configuration, with marked iliac flaring, distinguish it from spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia.
