Les chercheurs ont remarqué un dysfonctionnement des canaux potassium exclusif aux individus atteints d’ÉT. Chez le patient atteint d’ÉT, ces canaux potassium sont beaucoup moins nombreux au niveau des synapses des neurones de l’hippocampe qu’ils ne le sont en cas normal. De plus, une partie des canaux restants sont bouchés par des molécules synthétisées par les neurones eux-mêmes [...] À cause de cette déficience des canaux potassium, les neurones sont excités plus longtemps et plus aptes à faire passer un signal.
