Le corps d’un rotifère comprend trois régions : la tête couronnée de l'appareil rotateur; le tronc, souvent couvert d’une cuticule plus ou moins épaisse, mais transparente, la lorica, avec ou sans épines; le pied, plus ou moins développé et rétractile, qui se termine soit par deux doigts, soit par une sorte de ventouse. El rotífero es un animal aerobio, heterótrofo y multicelular. Su nombre procede del hecho de que tienen dos juegos de pestañas giratorias sobre la cabeza que utilizan para su alimento y captura de alimentos. Los rotíferos son muy eficaces al consumir bacterias dispersas y floculadas, así como pequeñas partículas de materia orgánica.
