The spiny water flea (Bythotrephes cederstroemi) is not an insect but a small crustacean, about half an inch long with a long, sharp, barbed tail spine. It is native to Great Britain, and its home range extended through northern Europe east to the Caspian Sea. It was first found in Lake Huron in 1984, and was most likely introduced from ballast water discharge from a trans-oceanic freighter. Since then, populations of the crustacean have exploded and it can now be found throughout the Great Lakes and in many inland lakes and waterways. 3, record 38, English, - spiny%20water%20flea

2, record 38, French, - cladoc%C3%A8re%20%C3%A9pineux

The desert spiny lizard captures its prey when the temperature exceeds 30 C but can only digest at 37 C or more. Males at the peak of activity bob their heads very frequently, moving them up and down with incredible speed. If a conspecific finds itself bobbed at in this way, it can react in a variety of ways- a weaker male will flee immediately, but a female usually holds her ground. 1, record 49, English, - desert%20spiny%20lizard

The origins of multifundus muscles are the sacrum, the sacroiliac ligament, the mammillary processes of lumbar, the tranverse processe of thoracic, and the articular processes of cervical vertebrae. Their points of insertion are the spines of contiguous vertebrae above. Their innervation comes from the dorsal branches of spinal nerves. Their action consists to extend and rotate the vertebral column. 2, record 68, English, - multifidus%20muscle

Gastropods are radulate organisms with a torted body (e.g., the body is rotated 180° so that the anus is above the head. Gastropods typically have a helical coiled univalved shell whose opening (aperture) may be closed by an operculum. Another feature which is useful in discriminating among groups is the structure called the selenizone which can be expressed as either a series of holes as in Haliotis, or as a groove along the periphery which is often seen as a sharp bend in the growth lines of the shell. 3, record 80, English, - selenizone
