There are many things that are used to identify the crown chakra. The colour for this chakra is violet or white. In the body it governs the brain, the top of the head-midline above the ears and the nervous system. The gland that links them is the pineal gland. Anything that goes wrong with any of these areas will affect the crown chakra. Also, when the energy level is deficient it will affect these parts. The gemstones for this chakra are diamond, amethyst and rock crystal. Lotus and olibanum are used for aromatherapy while the metal for crown chakra is gold. When you see any of these symbols, you should know that they are associated with the crown chakra in the chakra system.

The seven chakras from the base of the spine to the crown of the head are muladhara (root chakra), swadhisthana (sacral chakra), manipura (solar plexus chakra), anahata (heart chakra), vishuddha (throat chakra), ajna (third eye chakra) and sahasrara (crown chakra).

The pineal body (corpus pineale; epiphysis) is a small, conical, reddish-gray body which lies in the depression between the superior colliculi. It is placed beneath the splenium of the corpus callosum, but is separated from this by the tela chorioidea of the third ventricle, the lower layer of which envelops it. It measures about 8 mm. in length, and its base, directed forward, is attached by a stalk or peduncle of white substance.

Catterall attempted to improve the predictive value of early radiographic changes in Perthes disease by identifying four radiologic signs that indicated a capital femoral epiphysis at risk for collapse. These findings are (1) Gage's sign (a small, osteoporotic segment that forms a transradiant V on the lateral side of the epiphysis); (2) calcification lateral to the epiphysis; (3) lateral subluxation of the femoral head; and (4) a transverse epiphyseal line. Murphy and Marsh found that these four head at risk signs and a fifth, diffuse metaphyseal reaction, correlated better with a poor radiologic result than did the degree of epiphyseal involvement.
