Macular translocation is a term used to describe any surgical procedure that involves the deliberate detachment of the retina with subsequent repositioning of the macula to a new location relative to the underlying retinal pigment epithelium. By moving the fovea away from abnormal pigment epithelium and/or choroid and repositioning it over more normal tissue, macular function can be stabilized or improved. 3, record 1, English, - macular%20translocation%20surgery
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are several different macular translocation techniques currently in use ... The various forms of macular translocation may be broadly classified into three categories depending on the size of the retinotomy/retinotomies used: (i) macular translocation with 360° peripheral circumferential retinotomy ..., (ii) macular translocation with large (but less than 360°) circumferential retinotomy ..., and (iii) macular translocation with either small (self-sealing) or no retinotomy/retinotomies, with or without chorioschleral infolding or outfolding ... The rationale of macular translocation is that moving the neurosensory retina of the fovea in an eye with recent-onset subfoveal CNV [choroidal neovascularization] to a new location before permanent retinal damage occurs may allow it to recover or maintain its visual function over a healthier bed of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)—Bruch's membrane-choriocapillaris complex. 4, record 1, English, - macular%20translocation%20surgery

Near-infrared reflectance (NIR) imaging is a noninvasive, noncontact, and rapid in vivo examination currently extensively available for ophthalmologists. ... the technique enables visualizing subretinal alterations located in the retinal photoreceptor layer, the retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE), and choroid. The basis is a long excitation wavelength ([approximately] 820 nm [nanometres] diode laser) that penetrates the optic media and enables visualizing the retina and choroid in detail. Changes in reflection and absorption of light through retinal tissues enhance visualization of structures beneath the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and melanin. Images often correlate with blue-light fundus autofluorescence (FAF); however, NIR demonstrates superiority in revealing sub-RPE lesions. 2, record 4, English, - near%2Dinfrared%20reflectance%20imaging

Retinal pattern dystrophies are a slowly progressive heterogeneous group of primarily autosomal dominantly inherited macular diseases whose unifying element involves the deposition of pigment in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) of the macula. Although findings are classically and most often centered in the macula, pigment deposition may also occur in the periphery. Depending on the distribution pattern, these pattern dystrophies can be separated into major categories or types. These include reticular dystrophy, fundus pulverulentus, butterfly-shaped pigment dystrophy, adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy, and multifocal pattern dystrophy simulating Stargardt disease. 2, record 6, English, - pattern%20dystrophy

Central serous retinopathy (CSR) is a pathologic condition characterized by swelling and elevation of retinal tissue near the macula due to accumulation of fluid between the photoreceptor outer segments and the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), often leading to detachment of the neurosensory retina. Also sometimes called central serous chorioretinopathy, the condition most often affects men 20 to 60 years of age, but it can also affect women. The disease is often unilateral and is self-limiting in about 60% of cases, but sometimes the retinal detachment persists, leading to damage to the RPE and the photoreceptors and resulting in vision loss. 3, record 11, English, - central%20serous%20chorioretinopathy

2, record 32, French, - invasion%20%C3%A9pith%C3%A9liale

Odorant molecules can reach the olfactory receptors via a passive pathway or an assisted pathway. In the passive route, molecules reach the olfactory mucosa via inhaled air. The inner surface of the stomach is lined by a mucous membrane known as the gastric mucosa. The mucosa is always covered by a layer of thick mucus that is secreted by tall columnar epithelial cells. Gastric mucus is a glycoprotein that serves two purposes: the lubrication of food masses in order to facilitate movement within the stomach and the formation of a protective layer over the lining epithelium of the stomach cavity. This protective layer is a defense mechanism the stomach has against being digested by its own protein-lyzing enzymes, and it is facilitated by the secretion of bicarbonate into the surface layer from the underlying mucosa. 3, record 47, English, - gastric%20mucosa

5, record 62, French, - %C3%A9pik%C3%A9ratoplastie

Serous tumors of the ovary are the most common cystic neoplasms. Cysts are lined by tall columnar, ciliated epithelial cells, and filled with serous fluid. They are either benign, frankly malignant, or of low malignant potential (also called borderline). The benign cystadenomas have a smooth and glistening inner lining. The cystadenoma often have small, mural, solid nodularities; papillary projections, and capillary invasion. In the benign tumors, the lining epithelium is composed of a single layer of tall, columnar ciliated epithelium with small microscopic papillae. Frankly malignant cystadenocarcinomas have multilayered epithelium with many papillary areas and the formation of large, solid epithelial masses with atypical cells in places invading the stroma. Since the entire urinary collecting system from renal pelvis to urethra is lined with transitional epithelium, its epithelial tumors assume similar morphologic patterns. They range from small benign papilloma to large invasive cancers. Large papillomas may develop, usually in the bladder, ranging from 1 to 3 cm in diameter. In these, the epithelium is generally somewhat atypical, with some variability in cell and nuclear size and some disarray in the cells' normal relationships to one another. It is this pattern that is called by some "an atypical transitional cell papilloma", whereas others call it a transitional cell carcinoma. 2, record 79, English, - papillary%20transitional%20cell%20carcinoma
