On ne sait encore si le Canada emboîtera le pas derrière la France qui utilise déjà «challenger» et à laquelle on recommande d’utiliser «chalengeur(euse) »ou «défieur(euse) ». Tout porte à croire que le nombre de compétitions gérées à partir de l'Europe imposera l'usage de ces termes, surtout si le nom donné à une épreuve contient le terme «chalenge». Entre-temps, le Canada utilise la périphrase «celui(celle) qui lance un défi» ou «défi lancé par X»; on pourrait donc croire que «défieur, défieuse» seraient plus volontiers adoptés.
