Mantoux test [is a] test for tuberculin reactivity in which tuberculin PPD (purified protein derivative) is injected intracutaneously. The injection site is examined after 2-3 days, a positive reaction, indicating current or previous infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (in an uninoculated individual), is an oedomatous and reddened area caused by T-cell reactivity.

L'épreuve de Mantoux [...] est utilisée pour vérifier la sensibilité d’une personne à la tuberculine. Cette épreuve consiste à injecter 0, 1 ml d’une solution de tuberculine dérivée de protéines purifiées [PPD] contenant l'équivalent biologique de 5 unités tuberculiniques. L'injection intradermique est faite à la face antérieure de l'avant-bras sur une peau saine. Ce test est indiqué pour identifier une infection antérieure ou actuelle au Mycobacterium tuberculosis, pour obtenir une valeur de base chez les personnes susceptibles d’être en contact avec le Mycobacterium tuberculosis et en de rares occasions en prévaccination avec le BCG [bacille de Calmette et Guérin].
