Traitement des eaux résiduaires que leur forte teneur en chrome rend toxiques. Les eaux chromées contiennent le chrome à l’état hexavalent. Il faut le réduire à l’état trivalent et précipiter l’hydroxyde par neutralisation (l’hydroxyde de chrome hexavalent est soluble). Cette solution en milieu acide s’oppose à tout mélange avec les eaux cyanurées qui doivent au contraire être oxydées en milieu alcalin. Les réducteurs les plus utilisés sont l’anhydride sulfureux et le métabisulfite de sodium.
