1, record 4, French, - algorithme%20de%20d%C3%A9compactage

Tin plate is now sold both on a weight per unit area basis and on a thickness basis. The old unit of area is the base box, equal to the area of 112 sheets, 14 by 20 inches, or 31 360 square inches (217.78 square feet). The new unit of thickness is the millimetre and the corresponding area designation for pricing and weight or area calculations is the SITA (System International Tin Plate Area) which equals 100 square metres or 4.9426 base boxes. ... The use of symbols to designate gage was displaced by the use of base weights (or basis weights) expressed in pounds per base box that also indicated the approximate thickness of the tin-mill product ... With the recent introduction of the metric system (SI) in production, gage is the basic unit for specification and area becomes only a derived value for commercial usage. 2, record 6, English, - base%20box
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Tinplate sheets used to manufacture cans and boxes were originally packed into wooden boxes in order to protect the polished tin surface. Sheets cut to 35 cm X 50 cm (14 X 20 in) and of 0.3 mm thickness weighed approx. 454 g (1 lb) and 112 were packed into a box, known as the "basis box". Variation in thickness of sheet cut to the same size would vary the weight, and larger sizes were made, although these were then called "tinned sheets". Modern production techniques favour reeling into rools for shipment, and protection with interleaving of paper or plastic where necessary. 3, record 6, English, - base%20box

Fer blanc(tin plate). [...]

3, record 9, French, - pourriture%20grise

A study of a number of roofs in which membrane shrinkage had been observed revealed that movement had taken place at one of two planes: at the membrane-insulation interface or at the insulation-deck interface. In certain cases both appeared to have been involved. Examples of the first type consisted of installations where coated base sheets had been placed dry (without asphalt) over polystyrene insulation without adhering. Movement at the insulation-deck interface resulted from improper attachment of the roofing to the deck because of lack of nailing to wooden decks or inadequate adhesion to most others. 3, record 28, English, - coated%20base%20sheet

2, record 28, French, - feuille%20de%20base%20enduite

The new unit of thickness is the millimetre and the corresponding area designation for pricing and weight or area calculations is the SITA (System International Tin Plate Area) which equals 100 square metres or 4.9426 base boxes. ... The use of symbols to designate gage was displaced by the use of base weights (or basis weights) expressed in pounds per base box that also indicated the approximate thickness of the tin-mill product ... A totally new type of press was introduced in 1981. The "Extended-Nip Press" features a very wide nip to give the sheet a long dwell time at high pressure. When used as the last nip, this press provides not only a much drier sheet, but also a stronger sheet due to improved consolidation of the web structure.... Key components are the stationary pressure shoe and the impervious elastomer belt, which form the bottom portion of the double-felted nip. The shoe is continuously lubricated by oil to act as a slip bearing for the belt. 1, record 43, English, - Extended%2DNip%20Press

1, record 43, French, - presse%20%C3%A0%20pince%20allong%C3%A9e

In a single-crystal blade casting, the first element to solidify is a "starter block" attached to the root of the [turbine] blade by a narrow helical passage in the mould. The helical passage obstructs the growth of multiple crystal boundaries, with the result that the blade is formed from a single crystal. This crystal propagates in two halves around the strong-back. The two halves of the blade can then be joined by a process called "transient liquid phase" bonding, in which the halves are mated around a foil "gasket" of the same alloy as the blade -- coated with boron to reduce its melting point -- and joined under pressure. The gasket and the thin layer of metal immediately adjacent to it melt, the boron dissipates completely and the part solidifies while still under pressure. As far as can be ascertained, the join produced by this means in a single-crystal blade is effectively perfect. 1, record 57, English, - single%2Dcrystal%20blade%20casting

1, record 57, French, - coul%C3%A9e%20des%20aubes%20%C3%A0%20structure%20mono%2Dcristalline
