After the open warfare of October 1973, fighting between Israel and Syria subsided, but increased dramatically early in 1974. In May 1974, an Agreement of Disengagement was signed by representatives of the two nations. Camp Ziouani is located on the Golan Heights, in the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) mission area. The Camp is situated approximately 50km NE of tiberias, a city on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, 200km NE of Tel Aviv, Israel and approximately 65km SW of Damascus, Syria.
