Geographic distribution. Flag smut of wheat has been reported from all continents (Purdy, 1965), and, being seed-borne, it has probably been introduced frequently into many regions. U. agropyri was important in parts of Australia, China, South Africa, northern Egypt, the Punjab of India and Pakistan, and in local parts of the U.S. Local farming practices and differences in the inherent resistance of wheats in a region influence the prevalence of flag smut, but climate is the main factor. 2, record 8, English, - flag%20smut%20of%20wheat

4, record 17, French, - v%C3%A9g%C3%A9tal%20en%20conteneur

The total water potential, which describes the energy of the water contained in the plant can be estimated from leaf water potential (LWP) measurements, by the use of the pressure bomb in salinity studies. The major components of LWP are leaf osmotic potential (LOP) and leaf turgor potential (LTP). Leaf water potential and leaf osmotic potential can be measured directly by the use of the pressure bomb and the vapor pressure osmometer, respectively. The LTP can be estimated by the equation LTP = LWP - LOP. 2, record 33, English, - leaf%20turgor%20potential

2, record 47, French, - indice%20foliaire

Fertilizers are materials containing plant nutrients that are added to the environment around a plant. Generally, they are added to the water or soil, but some can be sprayed on leaves. This method is called foliar fertilization. It should be done carefully with a dilute solution, because a high fertilizer concentration can injure leaf cells. The nutrient, however, does need to pass through the thin layer of wax (cutin) on the leaf surface. 1, record 56, English, - foliar%20fertilization

4, record 71, French, - chambre%20de%20pression%20Scholander

The total water potential, which describes the energy of the water contained in the plant can be estimated from leaf water potential (LWP) measurements, by the use of the pressure bomb in salinity studies. The major components of LWP are leaf osmotic potential (LOP) and leaf turgor potential (LTP). Leaf water potential and leaf osmotic potential can be measured directly by the use of the pressure bomb and the vapor pressure osmometer, respectively. The LTP can be estimated by the equation LTP = LWP - LOP. 2, record 72, English, - leaf%20osmotic%20potential

The sap extract was then immediately placed on a filter paper disc in the C-52 sample chamber and its value of osmotic potential determined (Turner, 1981). 3, record 72, English, - leaf%20osmotic%20potential

From each bump, or primordium, a new leaf will grow. As the stem grows and the dome is pushed upward, new primordia continue to appear; meanwhile, the older, better-developed primordia continue to grow up and around the newer primordia, overhanging and protecting the newcomer. The primordia form one after another with strict regularity. Indeed, if one knows the species and the location of two or three previously formed primordia, one can predict exactly where the next primordium will form. 2, record 91, English, - primordium
