Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Synthetic gene drives are a new form of genetic engineering that overcomes the normal rules of inheritance, and which may allow the deliberate eradication or modification of species and populations in the wild. Gene drives distort the process of inheritance so that the probability of particular genes—and thus specific traits—being passed on is increased substantially above the usual 50% (known as the Mendelian rule of inheritance). Over the course of several generations, genes with higher inheritance rates will rapidly spread through a breeding population ... Thus, in theory at least, a gene drive can be employed to force genetic changes into an entire population. 4, record 1, English, - synthetic%20gene%20drive
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
gene drive: In English, a differentiation is sometimes made between a synthetic gene drive, a bioengineered process, and a natural gene drive, a natural process of inheritance. Consequently, it may be preferable to use the designations "synthetic gene drive" and "engineered gene drive" when referring to the bioengineered process. 5, record 1, English, - synthetic%20gene%20drive

4, record 1, French, - for%C3%A7age%20g%C3%A9n%C3%A9tique

Long-lived climate forcers refer to a set of well-mixed greenhouse gases with long atmospheric lifetimes. This set of compounds includes carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrous oxide (N2O), together with some fluorinated gases. They have a warming effect on climate. These compounds accumulate in the atmosphere at decadal to centennial time scales, and their effect on climate hence persists for decades to centuries after their emission. 2, record 12, English, - long%2Dlived%20climate%20forcer

... the term "state of technology" (a standard term used in licences) is a dynamic concept and both the availability and the economic feasibility of the technology become issues. Dr. Rainer HAMM (Rechtsanwalt) (defence attorney) commented that there is a sensitive major tax on waste water. Those who have a licence to use a river to pollute have to pay a fee depending on the degree of pollution. The waste water effluent fees are quite effective to minimize pollution. ... Large corporations also have high incentive to develop technology. It is they who develop technology. While universities can and do develop standards, they cannot build technology and compare standards. That can only be done by industry itself. Thus it is the industry which makes the law by defining the standards of technology. They are motivated to do so by the new device, popular in the United States, known as "technology forcing." Dr. HAMM was however sceptical of using criminal law to pursue dynamic concepts. If you include a state of technology that can change any time and then punish someone for not having fulfilled the state of technology, then you blur the distinction between what is criminal and what is not criminal. 2, record 42, English, - technology%20forcing

Natural or man-made alterations in the atmospheric composition which affect the radiative profile and, hence, the earth's temperature and climate are said to be "radiative climate forcing" or simply "forcing". The concept of radiative forcing should not be confused with that of climate change. The rate of climate change depends on much more than simply the rate of change of radiative forcing. Radiative forcing measures the temperature change at the earth's surface that would be observed for a given atmosphere, if there were no climate feedback effects such as increased concentrations of water vapor, changes in atmospheric chemistry reaction rates, cloud feedbacks, albedo changes (via for example, changes in the extent of snow cover or desertification); and no system lags such as through ocean thermal inertia. 4, record 48, English, - forcing

We created a reduced-form climate model that is based upon a series of previously conducted transient atmosphere-ocean general circulation model (AOGCM) simulations. For the model, we constructed a set of multiple regression transformation equations that relate the time history of radiative forcing to future transient climate change. These transformation equations were derived for a global grid and enable us to estimate future transient climate for a number of variables and for a wide range of CO2 and aerosol emission scenarios. 3, record 62, English, - transient%20climate%20change

Record number: 75, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 75, French, - radiatif
