Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The system consists of two macroscopic electrodes and a single atom. An electron tunnels from one electrode to the atom, and then from the atom to the second electrode. The Coulomb repulsive force is so strong when one electron tunnels that a subsequent electron tunneling into the same atom would be forbidden. Thus only after that particular electron tunnels out can the second electron tunnel in. This is the first experimental observation of the Coulomb blockade in a single atomic junction. 2, record 2, English, - Coulomb%20repulsive%20force

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
1, record 2, French, - force%20r%C3%A9pulsive%20coulombienne

That region surrounding the nucleus near the maximum of the potential energy for a positively charged particle. The combined effects of the long-range repulsive Coulomb force and the short-range attractive nuclear force result in that maximum in the potential energy. 2, record 3, English, - Coulomb%20barrier
