NatGRID is an acronym that stands for National Georeferenced Resource Information for Decision-makers. The aim is to provide information on the spatial distribution of the key ecological characteristics and wood resources of Canada's forests. These values reflect core issues in the debate about sustainable development. To generate this information requires the integration of biological field survey data (that has typically been collected by forest researchers), remotely sensed data about forest canopy cover and most importantly, spatial data that model the environmental drivers of forest systems.

Traditional methods for acquiring topographic data typically rely on aerial photogrammetry, where measurement of the terrain surface below forest canopy is difficult and error prone. The recent emergence of airborne P-band interferometric synthetic aperture radar (IFSAR), a high -resolution, microwave remote sensing technology, has the potential to provide significantly more accurate terrain models in forested areas. Low-frequency, P-band radar energy physically penetrates through the vegetation canopy and reflects from the underlying terrain surface, allowing for accurate measurement of the terrain surface elevation even in areas with dense forest cover.

Si le terrain est un peu moins escarpé et accessible à un petit porteur, on pourra demander à l'ouvrier forestier d’abattre, d’ébrancher, de tronçonner et d’empiler les arbres sur le parterre de coupe, puis on enverra un petit porteur(genre F-4 Dion) chercher les billes. Celles-ci seront alors généralement transférées dans un camion. Dans ce cas, on n’ a pas besoin d’un débusqueur. Généralement, l'abattage mécanique ne demande pas non plus l'intervention d’un débusqueur, parce qu'alors l'abatteuse ou bien transportera le bois elle-même(abatteuse-porteuse), ou bien le regroupera d’une certaine façon, préparant ainsi la charge pour le débardeur.

OBS

Nous [Office de la langue française] nous inscrivons [...] en faux contre la tendance, qui a longtemps prévalu au Québec, visant à différencier les tracteurs qui traînent (débusqueurs) et ceux qui portent (débardeurs). Cette distinction qui constitue en somme un calque de l’anglais, ne correspond pas au découpage notionnel du français.

OBS

Le terme tracteur débusqueur convient plus particulièrement à un tracteur agricole muni d’un treuil de débusquage et servant à sortir les arbres, surtout en forêt privée ou dans de petites exploitations.
