An optical disk of small dimensions in which a digital signal is represented as a sequence of pits along a spiral track and is read out by a beam of light.

Conventional CD: today's CD and DVD technology uses tiny pits to represent individual binary digits. In molecular CDs, the position of each polymer side-chain determines its opacity. Instead of single bits read from single pits on disc, four binary bits are read from the shade of each grey "dot" or polymer side-chain.

In photogrammetry, a map made from an image or image mosaic, usually overlaid with a grid or graticule, and cartographically enhanced to aid interpretation.

An image that has been processed to be like a map in appearance, scale, geometry, boundary, and projection with a degree of precision that satisfies the user. Measurements made from an image map yield results equal to those made from the corresponding planimetric, topographic, or other map. Similarly, either the image map or the conventional map can be overlaid and matched with the other.

DVD-Video supports high quality full motion MPEG-2 video of 720x480 pixels/frame, at 30 frames/sec (NTSC), and 720x576 pixels/frame at 25 frames/sec (PAL). It provides for high quality audio (MPEG-2, 7-1; Dolby AC-3, 5-1; or Linear PCM), with up to 32 sub-picture elements such as captions and stills (to a TV monitor). In addition, it offers the user choices of languages, various navigation and interactive controls (including random access for interactive games), and regional coding, copy protection and other features demanded by the movie industry.
